I guess the brilliant blue bits of paper hanging on to the surface are remnants of some sort of label

Or perhaps someone just wanted to carve a knife

and which I'd guess dates to the 1920s or so

and heavy (I forgot to weigh but would guess 4 lbs or so)

Terrific carved face too, with triangular nose and a wide smile, which appears to have been enhanced with graphite, also to give him eyeballs.
